The son of the late John C. and Marguerite Gerken passed away Monday, August 13, 2012. Age 75. He was born April 7, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan. He attended Saginaw schools and graduated from Saginaw High in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Judy Wiley on April 18, 1964 in Maywood, Illinois. He worked at Saginaw Steering Gear (Delphi Steering) for 44 years before retiring in 1999. He was an active supporter of UAW 699. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he was active with the United Methodist Men’s Club and as an usher. He was also very active in the VFW Post #1859 in the Men’s Auxiliary and served proudly on the Honor Guard. He was also a member of American Legion Post #18. Surviving besides his wife Judy, are three sons and their wives; Craig and Merrylen Gerken, West Des Moines, Iowa; Jay and Kelly Gerken, Bay City; and Randy and Jodi Gerken, Novi; three grandchildren, Taylor Gerken, Ashley Gerken, and Carson Gerken; a brother and his wife, Bob and Donna Gerken, Bay City; a sister, Ruth Appold, Bay City; a brother-in-law, Daryl and Gerri Wiley, Wheaton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will take place at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at The First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd, Saginaw. Rev. Kathy Snedeker will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N Center Rd. (between Shattuck and McCarty) where the family will be present on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. The VFW Post #1859 will honor John with a walk through at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
