Kathleen M. (Greene) Smalley

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away Friday, July 27, 2012 at her home. Age 87 years. The daughter of the late Clements and Gertrude (Hilen) Richter, Kathleen was born August 29, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Harold C. Greene Sr. on June 25, 1948. He predeceased her December 30, 1973. Kathleen then married George Smalley on November 27, 1975. He predeceased her April 11, 2009. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Marygrove College and later earned her Master’s Degree in Education. Kathleen had taught in Saginaw, Carrollton and Swan Valley Schools. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church. Kathleen also volunteered at St. Mary’s of Michigan Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed square dancing, traveling, golfing and spending time with her family. Surviving are two sons and their spouses, Michael and Kathy Greene, Saginaw; Harold and Sherri Greene, Saginaw; a step-daughter, Cheryl Rowe, Orem, Utah; eight grandchildren, Julie (Sean) Kelly, Nathan (Wendy) Greene, Kara Greene, Jeff (Haley) Cottrell, Michele (Brendt) Reif, Dave Carter, Melissa Dewar and Jennifer Dietrich; five step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews. Kathleen was preceded in death by one sister and one brother, Marion Calabrese and Clement (Bud) Richter, and by a step-daughter, Donna Yates. Funeral Liturgy will take place 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. Kathleen’s nephew, Rev. Fr. Tony Richter will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty), where the family will be present on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at St. Stephen Catholic Church on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of Mass. There will be a Vigil Service 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Stephen Catholic Church or Hospice of Michigan.
